Named Verion, this new, recently FDA approved guidance-system will soon be available to Norwood LASIK cataract surgeons. Advanced Technology Intraocular Lenses
Once the cataract has been removed from the afflicted patient, intraocular lenses are implanted in their place. The two groups of intraocular lenses, can be placed into two categories, which are advanced and basic. The federal FDA has recently approved a new, laser-less procedure called conductive keratorplasty for treating farsightedness, which effects about 20 percent of the US population. The procedure has only been performed a dozen times, but is already proving to have some real advantages. For one, it’s extremely fast, working at a rate of about three minutes per eye. There is also virtually no scarring in the central part of the cornea, and it may be better suited for older patients who are more prone to dry eyes, an occasional problem with LASIK. The downside lies in its expensive hardware, thus making Norwood LASIK the more affordable option.
